Karlovy Vary is one of the most attractive and frequently visited towns in the Czech Republic and is famous not only in this country, but around the world. With some fifty thousand inhabitants, it lies in the west of the Czech Republic near the German border and 100 km from the Czech capital, Prague. The biggest Czech spa town, Karlovy Vary was founded in the mid-14th century by Charles IV, the most famous King of Bohemia. Legend has it that Charles himself discovered the Karlovy Vary springs when hunting deer. However, spa care and the mineral springs the spas use are not the only attractions of this town in the heart of Europe. Karlovy Vary is also world famous for its Moser glass, Becherovka herbal liqueur and its international Film Festival, a tradition that dates back many years. Another advantage of the town is that it has its own airport, which is very convenient for the inhabitants of Karlovy Vary when they travel.
